#CollierCounty To Open Shelters:

Emergency Shelters - Remember, there are very limited services; think lifeboat, not love boat! Those who plan to use emergency shelters should bring any necessary medications, cell phone chargers, toiletries, food, water, flashlights, bedding, and anything else they need to be comfortable.

A Special Needs-Only Shelter will open at Palmetto Ridge High School for electrically dependent or bedridden pre-registered clients who require nursing care. A family member or caregiver is asked to accompany the special needs person to the shelter.

Please note only the Special Needs Shelter above and the middle schools listed are pet friendly. Owners are responsible for the care of their pets. Please bring appropriate supplies. The pets must remain crated. The pets will not be permitted in the shelter area but will be housed in another location in the school.

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, bulky items or yard waste on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in unincorporated #CollierCounty. No make-up collections will be made. Collection services will resume on the next regularly scheduled day. The Collier County Landfill, the Immokalee Transfer Station and all Collier County Recycling Drop-Off Centers will also be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Residents are encouraged to secure garbage and recycling carts where they will not be blown away. This helps everyone stay safe and prevents litter in our community. #CollierRecycles #PublicUtilities

An Emergency City Council meeting will be held 10/7/2024 at 4:00 PM, City Hall, to discuss issuing a State of Emergency.

Beginning at 6 AM tomorrow, Tuesday 10/8/24, Collier County will order a Mandatory Evacuation for Zones A & B.  Shelter locations will be announced.

Collier County has issued a Precautionary Volunteer Evacuation for Zones A & B.

A storm surge watch has been issued for coastal Southwest Florida, and 4-7 feet of storm surge is forecast for Collier County. If you are told to evacuate, please do so. To find out whether you are in an evacuation zone, visit FloridaDisaster.org/Know.

Per the Collier County's Board of Commissioner's Emergency meeting, all residents in Collier County zones A and B, including mobile home residents and locations with a history of storm flooding, are recommended to evacuate on a voluntary precautionary basis, effective immediately.

According to Collier County, if you have a plan and resources to get to an inland destination, now is the time to look over your checklist, mobilize, and have ample time to get there. This includes Everglades City and Chokoloskee.

Collier County will announce shelter locations, including a special needs shelter, later Tuesday morning as they complete details.

All Collier County public schools will be closed from Monday, October 7 through Thursday, October 10.

If you or someone you know has been impacted and needs assistance, here is helpful information from the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM).

Collier County Solid Waste advises customers to place storm debris at the curb on their regularly scheduled collection day. Customers can follow these steps to ensure their yard debris is collected safely and efficiently.
Bundle It: Keep bundles under 50 lbs. Secure them with twine and limit their length to four feet. Remember, branches should be no larger than four inches in diameter.
Bag It: Use only paper yard waste bags for leaves, grass, and trimmings.
Container It: Use 45-gallon containers for your waste, making sure they weigh less than 50 lbs. when full. 
Customers with a large amount of debris (over 50 lbs. or longer than 4 feet), please call (239) 252-2380 to report it.

GARBAGE COLLECTION:

As #CollierCounty keeps an eye on the storm, garbage and recycling collection will be taking place as scheduled. On rainy and windy days, please take your containers inside after collection to prevent litter in our community. Or you may choose to take advantage of twice-a-week collection service and wait for the next collection day. For more information about Solid Waste   services, visit colliercountyfl.gov/collection. We are monitoring the situation closely, but at this time it is too early to anticipate any operational changes. Check our web page www.CityofEverglades.org for up-to-date information. The Red Cross has a hurricane app that can be downloaded free to your mobile device. The app sends location-based weather alerts, includes tips on how assemble an emergency kit in the event of a power outage or evacuation, and a real-time map to help you find the location of Red Cross shelters should you need to leave your home. The app can be found in smartphone app stores by searching for American Red Cross, texting ‘EMERGENCY’ to 90999, or by going to redcross.org/apps.  1
